Pickleball has gone from a curiosity to one of India's fastest-growing sports — and 2026 is its biggest year yet.

Explosive court growth

India's court count has surged from roughly a couple of hundred in early 2024 to well over a thousand courts by 2025, with the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA) targeting a further wave of new courts and a jump from tens of thousands of players toward a much larger national base through 2026.

A home-grown league: the World Pickleball League

India launched its first city-based franchise league, bringing a global pool of players from many countries to Indian courts, with a new franchise added for its second season and broadcast across major streaming and sports platforms. It's doing for pickleball what franchise leagues did for kabaddi and cricket — turning players into stars.

Big sanctioned tournaments

2026 features India's first large internationally-sanctioned events, drawing well over a thousand players across dozens of categories — a sign the competitive ecosystem is maturing fast.

Where pickleball is biggest in India

The sport is strongest in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR (Delhi, Gurugram, Noida), Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Kolkata, where dedicated courts and clubs are multiplying. Many tennis and badminton venues are now adding pickleball lines too.
